About

Draw the Dog by Jim George

Some things are difficult to imagine, like the volume of stars in the sky, or the quantity of dog hair on your sofa. You also may not realize that this web site includes over 450 dog cartoons.

We can say two things with absolute certainty. Jim George drew every cartoon, and Bruce Kasanoff typed every word. That’s because Jim likes to draw so much, he refuses to do anything else, and also because Bruce is so bad at drawing that people always make him do anything but draw.

And now you know the rest of the story, except the part about four crates of coconuts, the 1942 Chevy and Jim’s idea for teaching gorillas to customize classic cars… but you’ve probably heard about that already.

Can’t tell you enough how much I enjoy receiving my cartoon every day. I’ve sent your link to several friends who now too are enjoying their morning smile. One I believe immediately sent you a long letter about her dog Emma!

I’m a Pet First-Aid & CPR Instructor and happy to say that many students (as well as myself) have had wonderful success stories over the years of helping their animals. Have you done any pet safety-type cartoons? I’d love to know as I’m constantly doing power point lectures and writing articles and might be able to use such a piece.

Best wishes for a bow wow wonderful new year!

BruceK December 29, 2009 at 11:39 pm

Thanks for your kind words – no pet safety cartoons so far. Most fall into the opposite category!

THANK YOU!!!! As our numerous Cairn Terrier rescue members will attest, being owned by a Cairn Terrier (aka “Toto”) is a blessed life. I can’t imagine living without a Cairn in my life, as they are so full of themselves and fill our lives so fully. Thanks so much for featuring a Cairn Terrier. Your website is “Toto-lly” cool.

Bruce — can you send me a PDF file or link to put today’s cartoon “obedience’ on my dog training website? I’m updating tonight and will also add a link to your site. Of course I’ll give you credit for the cartoon! If you have others about dog training or obedience I’ll appreciate a PDF for those as well. Thanks!

Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful drawings. I would like to help spread the word about you and was wondering if I could put a link to your site on my website. http://www.dvanimalcommunicator.com Since I’m an animal communicator and greyhound lover your link would be a perfect addition. I like to share happy things on my because there is enough bad news spread elsewhere.
Please let me know how you would like it done if it is okay.
Peace,
Debbie

A daily moment of anticipation, wonder and joy as I watch your cartoon unfold before me.
That canine/human relationship is just so rich.
Thank you so much for sharing!

Hi, I was wondering if your dog font could be purchased. I love it! Love your website, as well….just found it today. Will be signing up. Thanks so much, Paulette

BruceK January 28, 2010 at 11:21 pm

Thanks, Paulette, but it’s not a font. Jim designed the logo. (The other letters don’t exist.)

BruceK January 28, 2010 at 11:25 pm

That would be great, Andrea.

Hi Bruce and friends,

I just discovered your adorable web site and great artwork. I love how the drawings “create” themselves right before your eyes on the computer screen! I run a small interactive boarding and day care facility for social dogs, and I could send you a plethora of funny stories to DRAW from (hah hah hah!). I will be sending a link to your site to many dog lovers in my address book.

Is there a way to save a drawing to the desktop to use as a screensaver? Just curious. I collect cartoons for personal pleasure and would love to save some of these. I can’t see them on my iPhone since Adobe Flash isn’t an option (don’t you just LUV politics?!), so I can’t show them to people that way. :-(

Anyway, thanks for putting a spark of delight in my day with your great creations. I’ll be thinking of some stories to relate to you and write again soon.

Happy tails,
Faye Nowell

Hello! We would like to put a link on our site, can you please send the code? Thanks!

In the store, you used to have a t shirt with a “Draw the Dog” logo on it. Will you be carring it again? Love the cartoons!!

BruceK May 10, 2010 at 9:52 pm

Hi, Gail -

We will not be carrying the T-shirt again, because we are letting dog rescue organizations sell T-shirts. Thanks for the kind words.

Getting my cartoon everyday, no matter “who” it is, always brings a smile. Having seven dogs in the house is ALWAYS an adventure, but seeing other people’s trials and tribulations through Jim’s talented mind literally, makes my day. Thanks so much, and thanks so much for supporting rescue and dogs in general! Amy – Mehoopany PA http://www.cairnrescue.com

I just found your site from one of my fellow dog bloggers and WOWZERS…you guys are really talented! I just love your work. When I have some extra $ I’m definitely going to have you do a picture of my Great Dane for me. My dane’s name is Kasha, she is a rescue that we adopted at 5 years of age. She’s 8 years old nowand her blog is Kasha the Dainty Great Dane if you want to check her out. I’m going to send you some pics as well as hopefully you may choose her one day for a cartoon. Thanks and keep up the GREAT work.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. You guys have made my day for about a year now. I forward your drawings to others and hope they will start to enjoy them too. One day one of mine will be up there. Story, you want a story with, ok.

Hi! Glad to meet Doodle. You’ll have to get him on the Board of Directors (approval toon on your ‘About Us’ page). As an email subscriber, I really miss the ’see the photo’ link that used to connect me to the comments facility. Thanks to you for brightening every day of my life. I hope you have a happy, healthy, challenging New Year.

Karly Rothenberg January 25, 2011 at 1:17 pm

Jim and Bruce,
Your cartoons – be it self-drawing or not – are just 110% fantastic, fun and incredibly creative! Keep doing whatever strikes your fancy – some of us will enjoy all of them – some of us will have our favorites and maybe some (not doubt it will be a minority) will not please – but you need to keep stretching your talents and growing so we can see what all you have inside those brains! First it was the cartoons and then Doodle! Both big hits! Charlie Sheen was clever in a political way and there is room for that too! You both rock so keep it all coming! Remember you can’t please all of the people all of the time but I think you do a pretty good job pleasing most of us every day! Tahnks for all that you bring to the table! A huge fan! Diane

Joann Lee March 3, 2011 at 11:38 am

I wish you’d go back to showing the pictures as they’re drawn! Part of my pleasure is watching the story unfold!

When I get a picture of Jackson!’s doing something remarkable (besides stretching his mid-morning nap in the sun seguing directly into his late-morning nap in the sun), I’ll send it on to you. Jackson!’s a 7-1/2-year-old Bichon-poodle mix (more correctly, a bichoodle) rescued from durance vile and living happily ever after in Berkeley, CA

I was just at the vet’s office today and thought if you had cartoons with a veterinarian related theme you could market them for decor in vet’s offices.

Donna Gaffney March 23, 2011 at 12:51 am

I think the book sounds wonderful! Just forwarded your email to the rest of the board.
REASON #2 suggestion: THOSE EYES!
Thanks so much for caring about rescue.
