Rescue a dog in need!

Next to dogs, we love dog rescue groups best. These largely volunteer organizations work tirelessly to help dogs in need. If you are interested in rescuing a particular breed of dog, these groups can assist you.

If you are part of a rescue group, we want to help. Be sure to follow the links in the right hand column to see how you can use our cartoons to raise funds and promote your group. Be sure to also add or update your information if it is missing below.

I offer custom embroidery for pets, their owners, pet professionals – including rescue organizations. You should make your artwork available to a digitizer and it could be then embroidered. Just an idea Rosalyn

Hi Bruce,
Congratulations for this amazing page. It makes my day, every single day.
We rescue and promote adoptions in Mexico , and we have a page where all those people , that they are not part of an organization, can promote the dogs that they have rescue. Here in Mexico we call them “Independent Protectors”. Those people, I am one of them, rescue the animals and absorve all the expences of those animals.

I want to use, this cartoon, but it will be incredible if you can do one exactly the same but instead of “Rescue Me” you can put it “Adoptame” (Adopt me)

By the way your link is now on my home page. http://www.cuidandosushuellas.org
Best Regards
Luis
P.S. Sorry for my bad english

CJ Casner January 26, 2010 at 6:48 pm

I’m first going to use it in our Craig List ad that speaks to rescue of all breeds and to Mid Florida Cavalier King Charles Spaniels in particular. And then use it on mugs/tshirts for fund-raising

Lisbeth Mønsted Larsen January 26, 2010 at 7:07 pm

There is one rescue that comes to mind. Or a form of rescue its worldwide and current. I am talking about greyhound rescue. As one track after the other is closing its gates for good hundreds of greyhounds become surplus to requirements. some help in the form of cartoons directed at this form of rescued will be most welcome. The same goes for the galgoes of Spain it is the end of the hunting season thousands of galgoes are abandoned murdered and handed to the municipal pounds that sounds allright only these municipal shelters have another name they are refered to as perras or killing stations. Privately owned shelters throughout Spain do their best to save as manny as possibel but the task is never ending as well as heartbreaking. Therefore I humbly ask for cartoon help on behalf of both racing greyhounds surplus to requirements as well as the Spanish galgoes most sincerly Lisbeth Mønsted Larsen Greyhound Action Denmark. ( too small for a website)

Sara Spears January 26, 2010 at 8:48 pm

I, too, would like to see a “rescue” cartoon specifically aimed at Greyhound (and Galgo) rescue. I volunteer for Greyhound Pets of America, Greater Northwest, and you drew my wonderful three Greyhounds in “Don’t Get Up”. I can’t begin to tell you how many people I have shown that cartoon to, and they have loved it – and can relate. When spreading the word about Greyhounds, we say they rescued us – wonderful dogs. If you want to get serious about how wonderful these ex-racing dogs are, go to
http://gnwgreyhounds.org/GreytPhotos/Rainbow-Bridge
and click on Warrior, and read what that boy taught me about life. If you listen to your new dog, it will tell you many wonderful things about how to live.

Sara Spears January 26, 2010 at 9:07 pm

Sorry, my bad – the link had a poem, but to all the rescue people that knew my Warrior, the last part of what I sent was:

I learned a lot from him – how to take life one step at a time. All the aches and pains are a part of living. Just look forward to what is ahead, not behind, and never feel sorry for yourself. Life is definitely an adventure to be savored at all times. This he taught me. I loved my R Painted Warrior! He rescued me!

Love my Greyhounds!

Thanks for permission to use your designs on mugs, tshirts etc that we sell for fundraisers. Would you have any objections to us adding our adoption group’s
name and/or website address under the cartoon logo?

We can always use generic “Adopt Me” cartoons ,but just as important to most groups would be “Foster Me” or “Foster Homes Needed”. Our impact is limited if we do not have an adequate number of foster homes as we choose not to kennel the fosters.

Also for years, I’ve used an adaptation of a Roger Carras quote that might also be generically used with an appropriate drawing–”Greyhounds are not our whole lfe, but they do make our life whole.”

And most appropriately for greyhound adoption groups,
“YOU are the only retirement plan this greyhound has.”

Wow I love it! Thanks so much for sharing. I will pass on to my whole group.

Pat Anderson January 30, 2010 at 2:36 am

I foster Border Collies for SPDR ( Seattle purbred dog rescue ).
This is a great Idea. Even a longer one for the letter head of the paperwork.
At this time I just use the letters SPDR but something with a variety of breeds and and the rescue name would make a great one for them.
Thank you for caring.

I have recently adopted a pitbull mix and our city is doing a crusade to stop dog fighting. Maybe you could consider a pit bull cartoon – very misunderstood breed….?

BruceK February 10, 2010 at 7:11 pm

Have you seen the ones we’ve done so far? Take a look: http://drawthedog.com/?cat=261 More coming…

Jim,
You capture the very essence of dogs. Here’s an idea you might want to use. The annual Door County Scottie Rally is holding it’s 10 Rally. The proceeds support Scottish Terrier Club of America, and related rescue & health research. Largely due to Sadie the scotty’s win at Westminister, this has become the year of ” The Scot”. Just imagine at the Rally more than 100 little scottie behinds with their distinctive “scottietude” swaggering behind a drummer and bagpipers in a parade through the beautiful Bailey’s Harbor.

Hannah March 7, 2010 at 3:45 pm

Thanks for sharing! I will defintly tell some of the shelters around here! Thanks again! That is really a great idea! ;-)

Chandra March 8, 2010 at 7:15 am

I want to say thank you for these wonderul drawings! I also second the request for “Adopt Me” and “Foster Homes Needed”

Thank you again!

Cathy March 9, 2010 at 4:22 pm

Thanks for a great start to each day! Please send link code. Thank you!

Pat March 15, 2010 at 4:45 pm

Your generosity is admirable and greatly appreciated. Your talent is a gift that all rescues can benefit from. As your site becomes more known, I’m sure you will get more requests for other breeds to showcase.

With that said, I’d like to offer a suggestion for our particular type of breed, the hunting dogs, English Pointers & English Setters. These could also relate to other breeds with a general saying, such as; “Pointing towards Rescue Awareness” or “To the Point with Rescues” “Get to the Point-Adopt”

Permission given to use the above ideas.
Pat

I would love to print your cartoons on printable fabric for a fund raiser quilt for our rescue group. I can’t however figure out how to print just the cartoon with out all the comments ( which are great, but I need just the picture to make quilt blocks out of.)
Can you give me an idea how I can enlarge the cartoon and print just the cartoon by itself ? It’s probably easy…. well for some anyway.
They say owners resemble their dogs….. I rescue bassetts…. dumber than rocks!!!!

Thank you!

I LOVE the cartoon you did for Greyhound rescue! Thank you!

I’d like to suggest a Galgo cartoon. Their plight is well publicized and heartbreaking. I have one in my pack and I try to raise awareness for Galgos. They need so much help and homes.

Hi Bruce,

Any Australian Cattle Dog (blue heeler) drawings in the works? We would love to use some of your work in our rescue!

Thanks!

Jenn

Beverly April 27, 2010 at 8:32 pm

Can you do a rescue drawing for Dachshund Rescue? We would love that. We too are still waiting on our 501(c)3 to be established. Can we still work with your designs before we get the paperwork?

Regina Goodhall April 27, 2010 at 10:00 pm

We rescue pekingese and japanese chins. We have lots of pictures on our website – especially in the success stories portion. We’d love to see cartoons with these breeds. We are a 501c3.

Cindy May 16, 2010 at 5:35 pm

Are you ever going to make a Draw A Cat site? I do a lot of work with our area no kill shelters for both cats and dogs. My volunteer work with our local gov’t ran Animal Control is the one nearest and dearest to my heart. We will take cats from Animal Control to cat shows with us when we go to show our own cats and enter them in the Household Pet class and have them up for adoption. In 2 years we have adopted out 215 cats this way alone. It is just myself and a friend that does it. It would be wonderful to have some of your work to use.

BruceK May 17, 2010 at 2:52 pm

Hi, Cindy – Although we occasionally feature some cats on this site, it’s not likely we will start a Draw the Cat site. But we appreciate the kind words.
Bruce
