This is perfect! Scarlett gives us many sleepless nights, but we love her so much that it is always worth it. The amazing thing about this cartoon being published today is that exactly one year ago today, I went and picked her up from the breeder! So this was the BEST “Gotcha Day” present ever. Thanks so much!

Kori February 2, 2010 at 4:16 pm

LOL, for us, all that’s needed is Java laying across our feet and another dog bed!

Susan Coolen February 2, 2010 at 4:18 pm

LMAO! This could be my Sirius!! He’s a BedHog deluxe! My Katie on the other hand, finds a spot curls up and you hardly know she’s there……
And you’re right Katie! What a great Gotcha Day gift!

THIS IS MY LIFE!!!. Bull, our 6 year old mixed breed INSISTS on cuddling up in between my husband and I at the most inopportune times. He is the most wonderful dog ever!! But BOY does he have his quirks!! And yes, LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION!! Thank you for putting a smile on my face already today!

Sara Spears February 2, 2010 at 4:33 pm

I think Scarlett found the perfect home! I’ll bet you are always warm ~

Lynn February 2, 2010 at 4:35 pm

Perfect. You should try it with two basset hounds and a cat. And Beauregard snores! Good thing I’m single.

Maribeth February 2, 2010 at 4:58 pm

OMG!! This fits our situation perfectly!! I call it spooning but then i call it very uncomfortable… Gus has a memory foam bed and still insists on sleeping with us… He is so warm when he is next to me. But many a night i have left the bed to go to the couch…. and then guess who follows me to the couch????? Love these…keep them coming….

Charlie's Mom February 2, 2010 at 5:00 pm

My nightly prayer:
Now I lay me down to sleep
I pray the dogs will let me keep
A tiny portion of the bed
A place to lay my weary head
And if things go right
and I’m in luck
I’ll only sleep with 5 dogs,
2 bears and 1 duck

Chris February 2, 2010 at 5:05 pm

The only thing that prevents us from having FIVE dogs in the bed is our “bed troll”. My Cattle Dog has staked his claim and doesn’t let the others up there if we’re in bed! (If we’re not in bed, he doesn’t care who is on the bed.) All they ever needed is one “look” from him and they chose one of the dog beds or open crates in the room instead. Sleeping places are well established now, so no one bothers to challenge him and we appreciate his vigilance and the fact that he’s not a bed hog. All he needs is a bit of space near our feet. I’m sure when he crosses the bridge the bed will be VERY crowded!

ITS JUST GREAT!!!!! YOURS TRULY, ED GARY

Jespah February 2, 2010 at 5:56 pm

this was our bed last night ;o))

Denice February 2, 2010 at 6:32 pm

This was our life for a while… except we have 2 dogs ( golden & lab/pitt mix). Decided that a twin bed in the room with us would work wonders… Now my husband sleeps in the twin and me and the 2 dogs share the big bed !! LOVE IT~

Deb February 2, 2010 at 6:49 pm

Charlie’s Mom – love the poem! Have you been looking in our window? Instead of the 2 bears and a duck, try a big ol’ bear of a hubby and a croaking frog!

We have 5 dachshunds, a Basset/Dane mix, a Dachshund/poodle mix and a Min pin in our house. All but the Dachs/poodle and one Dachshund sleep in the bed and I wake up like Scarlett’s Mom clinging to the edge of the bed in the 3″ wide space they ALLOW me! Hubby gets all the room HE wants, though!

Hubby says we have Dachshund Birth Control!

Susan February 2, 2010 at 7:00 pm

Deb – I’d love to see what a Basset/Dane mix looks like…just hope that the mom was the Dane part of the equation!

I sleep (or used to sleep) with a Basset that insisted on getting under the covers, then would growl and sometimes bite if I moved through the night, thus ‘disturbing’ her.

Sue Williams February 2, 2010 at 7:00 pm

That is our bed too. We have 2 whippets and a greyhound that get between us. The only way we will ever know if power goes off on a frigid night is when the other greyhound gets into bed too.

Peggy Frezon February 2, 2010 at 7:02 pm

Wait a minute, Basset/Dane mix?! Trying to picture this!
I love this cartoon today. Our doxie/cocker spaniel mix usually sleeps on the bed ON my feet. She doesn’t appreciate when I have to roll over or change position.

james david bell February 2, 2010 at 7:02 pm

Love this – mirrors my story about my wife’s afghan – wish I had gotten my story in earlier – the only difference is that she is on the pillow and often half under the sheets … any way you can do this cartoon with a blonde afghan? I would love to have it!!

Sharee Corbin February 2, 2010 at 7:23 pm

Oh my, looks almost like our bed except you would have to add one more pupper.
We always wake up COLD and trying to grab more of the sheets to cover ourselves.

Both of our girls just have to sleep inside the covers . Being on the outside just isn’t “cozy” enough. The other 3 are very happy with the comfy couches and leather chair in our bedroom…..thank goodness !!
Thanks for making my day a brighter one.’

Yep!!! This is my husband me and my 3 pitbulls, Jazzmine, Diesel, Jada. Great cartoon.

Jess February 2, 2010 at 9:15 pm

My pseudo-spouse won’t let me share pictures of him sleeping on one side with the two girls (our pitbulls, Baby & Luna) sleeping on the other…all three stretched out, same positions, heads on pillows, blankets to chins. It’s hilarious!

Liz February 2, 2010 at 10:22 pm

Been there, done that, have the T-shirt! Covered with Akita hair!!!

Bonnie February 3, 2010 at 3:44 am

It is just me in a queen bed with three Shih Tzus and occasionally my Lhasa. For such little dogs they sure can stretch and hog the bed, with me sleeping on the edge most of the time. Sad thing is when I get up during the night I apologize to the kids for disturbing them. I get the look too…like I was sleeping why are you disturbing my warm spot. I wouldn’t give that up for anything.

Jennifer February 3, 2010 at 6:11 am

Sooo cute! Although I kept waiting for a cat to pop up in the empty dog bed! :)

Kat February 3, 2010 at 5:11 pm

I was hoping that someone else with small dogs would admit to the same problem. My husband and I share with two chihuahuas and a five pound toy fox terrier. Today’s drawing could be me, if only there was more human flesh hanging off the edge of the bed. It’s an embarrassment sometimes to admit that a combined weight of thirty five pounds can take the greatest majority of a shared bed…but they do!

Katie February 3, 2010 at 5:13 pm

I’m so glad everyone enjoyed this cartoon! I must have looked at it a hundred times already. I showed it to Scarlett last night, but she didn’t find it nearly as exciting as I did. My boyfriend (the Little Spoon in the cartoon, Scarlett is the Big Spoon) ordered me a framed print and I am so excited about that! If this cartoon doesn’t convince him to buy us a California King bed, I don’t know what will…….especially when dane number two comes home in a few years! Big thanks again to Draw the Dog for lighting up my entire week!

Daniela Caride February 4, 2010 at 3:15 am

Haha! Wonderful!! Here’s a great story about a Goldendoodle and a tiger cat overcrowding a bed!= – with a hilarious picture.

Now I can relate to that one. I have a lab Dane X. He, when on all fours stands 27.5 at the withers. He weighs 80+ pounds. His name is Bumper. Black with white chest blaze and toe tips. We sleep in a double bed now, we once shared a twin. He received his name because when I was trying to figure one out I asked my Niece and Nephew if they had any ideas. Well at three months old he was so rambunctious he ran into about every thing. Chairs, tables, people, bumpers of parked cars, and yes trees. He never watched were he was going. Well now he is 3 years old and still runs like crazy, but a lot less bumping. When we had to move in with Mom she gave him his second name which he perks up to when she says it. “Bumper Jon” My full size buddy.

nick February 9, 2010 at 10:23 am

I have to say this is my bed too! One note for you Katie if you see this again, our bed hog is a 95 pound white boxer/ dalmatian mix, and we tried the king size bed trick after 6 years of her wonderful companionship in the center of the bed. No luck. She just stretches out even further. The other 2 dogs were older and fine with floor bed or the couch. One, the female golden, passed last night, and the other is a 16 year old black lab who will join her soon. They are the joys of our lives, and who could ever refuse the middle of the bed to them!?
